I wouldn't waste your time. How are yous going to deal with information technology if the battery/water take shorted out the sensor, card reader etc.

Theres a practiced chance water besides got underneath the sensor glass .

Did you lot drib it in table salt water as that is very corrosive leading to dry solder joints later on down the line.

That's bad luck. Take the bombardment out, menu out, open everything that can be opened and let it dry out out in a warm room. Let it sit down for a twenty-four hours or two and exercise not try to plow information technology on....once the majority of the water has dripped out, y'all can apply a hair dyer on a very depression setting.

If your cam dropped into salt water a professional repair would not only be insanely expensive merely odds are that a repair would be impossible. I'd look you'd have a repair request rejected because the table salt water tin do so much harm to electronics and mechanics.

If your cam dropped into drinking water (clean sweet water) then with some luck and thorough drying it can return to life - especially if the cam didn't suffer and short circuit by switching it on when still not totally dry.

At that place's a lesson here for everyone!

If you drop Any electronic device into water DO NOT SWITCH It ON until certain it has FULLY DRIED OUT. If the circuit boards are accessible or tin can be opened up this could be a matter of a few days. In the example of a photographic camera it could exist weeks or even months or it might never dry out out to a point where it can be safely switched on!

I think the best way to self repair it would be to wrap it in $100 bills. Let it sit for a week.

Then unwrap information technology and take the $100 bills to buy a new camera.

I accept information technology that the photographic camera took a bathroom in fresh water. If it had been salt water, I'd think the camera probably wouldn't power on. Unless it was very clean water, similar a swimming pool, the fine suspended particles that got inside are eventually going cause problems with the mechanical systems such every bit the shutter, machine focus, image stabilization and zoom. I certainly wouldn't trust using this camera for anything important.

The error message is fairly generic. It's just reporting that 1 or more organization components reported an error. You didn't mention if the camera is still imaging and takes pictures.

I am considering trying to fix it myself because getting it repaired is insanely expensive. I suspect the flash lath is defective and was thinking to gild a new i from the link below.

That's a circuit board for the original RX100 introduced dorsum in 2022. Unlikely information technology's yet used in the RX100m6.

The video is about cleaning dust/lint from the sensor. That'southward trivial compared to the water damage in you lot camera.

Practise you agree this has a high likelihood of fixing the problem or should I expect other parts as well to be broken?

You mentioned the viewfinder wasn't working. I'd place more value on that than the flash. I'd look most repair companies won't touch your photographic camera or volition quote a high percentage of replacement value. You might get by with some DIY repair. But I await the photographic camera won't be 100%.

But sell information technology on eBay. I dropped my m5, and sold information technology on eBay and put it towards a used m6 which I also bought off eBay.

He cannot hurt it whatever more than doing the water test.

Probably a tumble dryer attack warm would exist simply every bit efficient at finally killing a photographic camera.

ane

Concluding summertime I jumped into a deep pool along a river in a wilderness on a 105F day.  Swam for a couple minutes then remembered my RX100mkII was in my pocket.  (Reminder:  Always skinny deep when in remote wilderness)

When I got out showtime matter I did was remove the bombardment and mem card.  I wiped it down and put camera in a mesh sidepocket of backpack and continued hike for several hours.  At trailhead I put it on the sunny dashboard of car for 2hr drive home.  Since I figured it was ruined anyway I tried to turn it on the adjacent mean solar day.  It seemed to work perfectly.

However images now have what await like several sensor dust spots, manageable at low fstop or with no solid (sky) areas.  I used opportunity to buy a new RX100mkVa and use the mkII as backup at present.  I may try anytime to follow online sensor cleaning procedure.

Anyway with fresh water and with wet camera stale out a hot sunny bone dry mean solar day it only took 24hrs to dry out sufficiently.  But I would have waited much longer, a week, if I thought it had a adventure.

Your post is very helpful for me  I have an former Sony DSCRX100-two. My effect is the plastic door on the side of the camera won't latch, where I connect to upgrade my photographic camera, or to accuse it.

I've wondered if my camera is repairable; especially if I have farther problems with my camera.

You've given me a valuable tool. Thank you.

Re: Self repairing a h2o damaged RX100M6

Deplorable, I thought I had turned on electronic mail notifications for my mail so I thought in that location were no responses. Cheers for all the input (except the guy suggesting to bake my camera in the oven)

The camera was turned on when I fell in the h2o. It was fresh water. It was shallow so it was out of the water again in 2 seconds. I did brand the error of not turning information technology off immediately as it seemed to piece of work at offset. After 1 minute I did switch information technology off and dried it in the dominicus and later a bag of rice.

The camera really works fine, other than the water stains (two spots that I can run into on the lens and on certain pictures depending on the zoom) and the fact the viewfinder and wink do not piece of work anymore. My insurance company unexpectedly covered the full corporeality so in a manner information technology's already paid for.

From your comments I don't hear anyone who successfully replaced parts in the camera, so my idea that I could purchase a new flashboard and some of the other viewfinder and wink components on the cheap will probably not work.

I volition probably put it on eBay to see what I can become for it (if you know what your doing yous can potentially fix it for less than 50usd) or only go on it every bit is.

It'due south just annoying to have a superlative of line camera for which I paid likewise much money that is partially defective.
